Clean Up Your Credit For Free

If you have bad credit, you may be an easy target for companies that claim to erase your credit – for a fee of course. Don’t fall for their claims. You can clean up your credit on your own, and for free.

Your credit history is maintained by credit bureaus that collect information from banks, stores, and other creditors. No one can erase accurate credit information during the reporting period, so don’t believe companies that say they can do so. If there is outdated or inaccurate information, though, you can remove it.

If you want to improve your credit score the right way, you’ll first have to obtain a credit report from a credit bureau or other reporting agency. Sometimes you’ll have to pay a small pay to receive your credit report.

Examine the report thoroughly, and if you find information that you believe is false or inaccurate, notify the bureau. By law, they are required to investigate the error for free. If your claims are true, the bureau will revise the report and send out revised reports to anyone who has received the inaccurate version.

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix when it comes to accurate credit information. Make sure you know exactly where your credit stands, and how much of that history is accurate. Only then can you begin to change your credit habits to build a lasting credit score.
